Missing annex in DIS 29500 Author: Michiel Leenaars It has been asserted by a number of members of the NEN committee 381034 that DIS 29500 cannot be fully implemented by third parties and has platform specific technical and even legal dependencies on underlying technologies which severely impact portability across applications and platforms. Someone pointed out that according to JTC1 directives (ed. 2006, par 10.5) this issue should have been addressed in a separate annex. The text of the directive states: Each standard shall incorporate, when applicable: An annex that outlines the significant portability capabilities that are provided by the standard and indicates what user requirements are addressed by the standard. The annex should facilitate the development of application environment profiles. An annex on "portability considerations" for interfaces, data and users. The annex must facilitate the review of the portability aspects of the standard and must describe those parts or aspects of the standard that are implementation dependent or are otherwise relevant to application portability. The annex should also record portability aspects which were addressed but not standardised. This annex seems to be missing in the case of DIS 29500. Since portability is a key issue in the case of this specific standard, ECMA is requested to submit this missing document.
