Het SIP protocol betekent een revolutie voor de manier waarop we in het dagelijks leven communiceren. Net als een aantal netwerk- en berichtensstemen samenkwamen in ons huidige internet door een enkele standaard te gaan volgen, was de noodzaak voor interoperabiliteit tussen real-time communicatie-eilanden als Skype, MSN, Yahoo, Google en natuurlijk de hele telecomindustrie een sterke drijfveer richting SIP als brugprotocol om naadloze domeinoverstijgende internetcommunicatie mogelijk te maken. Samen met andere protocollen en standaarden als ENUM, SIMPLE en Jabber, is de convergentie tussen mobiel en vast, instant messaging, aanwezigheidsdiensten, spraak en videocommunicatie eindelijk nabij. De volgende generatie van mobiele SIP-apparaatjes brengt alles binnen handbereik van de eindgebruiker.

De drijvende factoren voor convergentie zijn het IMS concept en de P2P applicaties die gebaseerd zijn op de end-to-end principes van het internet. De verschillen en overeenkomsten tussen deze twee concepten zijn bepalend voor de volgende generatie van de aloude waardeketen van netwerkoperators, leveranciers van value addes services, MVNOs en electronicaleveranciers.

Het is in het belang van de eindgebruikers als de marktkrachten die zich aan het ontwikkelen zijn in dit veld zich positioneren op basis van een goed inzicht in de technologie achter de verschillende business cases. De gecombineerde P2P, SIP en IMS tutorials die door experts van naam uit binnen- en buitenland worden gehouden, zullen in combinatie met de showcases en demonstraties helpen om de voor en nadelen te analyseren van het uitrollen van diensten gebaseerd op deze technologieen - en daarmee van dienst zijn bij het maken van beslissingen van serviceproviders en klanten om in deze nieuwe richting te bewegen.

De Future of VoIP II conferentie wordt georganiseerd door de ISOC.nl Special Interest Group rondom Internettelefonie en SIP. De conferentie wordt gehouden in de aula van de Koninklijke Bibliotheek (Prins Willem-Alexanderhof 5) in Den Haag.

The SIP protocol is now revolutionizing the way we communicate in our everyday life. Just as various network and messaging systems that forged the today's Internet merged and followed a single standard, the need for interoperability between walled garden real-time communication islands like Skype, MSN, Yahoo, Google and the telecom industry spearheaded SIP as the protocol to bridge and realize inter-domain seamless communications across the Internet. Together with other protocols and standards like ENUM, SIMPLE and Jabber, the convergence between mobile and fixed networks, IM, Presence, voice and video communications will finally take place. The next generation of SIP enabled mobile devices will put everything into the hands of the end-user.

The driving factors for convergence are the IMS concept and the P2P applications based on the end-to-end principle of the Internet. The differences and similarities between these two concepts are shaping the next generation value chain of network operators, VAS providers, MVNOs and device manufacturers.

For the benefit of the end-users, it is important for the market forces to position themselves while understanding the technology behind the business cases. The combined P2P, SIP and IMS tutorials held by renowned specialists in these fields, the showcases and demonstrations will help analyzing the pros and cons of rolling out services based on these technologies and help in the decision making of the service providers and customers moving in this new direction.

The Future of VoIP conference is organized by ISOC.nl SIP special Interest Group and provides insight about where and how this convergence will take place. The conference will take place in the aula of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (Prins Willem-Alexanderhof 5) in The Hague, the Netherlands.
