Lees een interessant voorbeeld van een Topic Maps Business Case
Op 5 april aanstaande organiseert Internet Society aan de Universiteit van Utrecht een
bijeenkomst rondom Topic Maps. Topic Maps zijn een standaard voor de
representatie en uitwisseling van kennis met een zeer flexibel
datamodel dat o.a. kan worden vastgelegd naar XML.
Topic Maps wordt wel "the GPS of the information universe" genoemd. Topic Maps is een officiele ISO-standaard die eind jaren 90 ontwikkeld is, en is voor een deel vergelijkbaar met de meer algemeen bekende semantische W3C-standaarden als RDF en OWL ondanks dat beiden oorspronkelijk voor andere doeleinden zijn ontwikkeld. Inmiddels wordt er dan ook gekeken naar de mogelijke integratie van beiden. Topic Maps zijn een interessante 'enabling technology' voor kennismanagementtoepassingen, in Nederland zet onder meer de Belastingdienst Topic Maps in voor kennisintegratie.
De keynote van dit seminar wordt gegeven door de Noor Lars M. Garshol. Garshol is auteur van diverse boeken over XML (onder meer "Definitive XML Application Development", een van de bedenkers van Topic Maps en mede-oprichter van het sofwarebedrijf (en de marktleider in dit veld) Ontopia. Daarnaast spreken onder meer Henri Melger (Belastingdienst) en Remko Helms (Universiteit van Utrecht) over hun ervaringen met Topic Maps. Het seminar wordt gehouden aan de Universiteit van Utrecht.
Toegangsprijs voor het seminar voor niet-leden van ISOC.nl is EUR 100, leden van ISOC.nl betalen 50 Euro (word lid!). Het seminar word gehouden op 5 april 2006 van 14.00 uur tot 18.00 uur
aan de Universiteit van Utrecht in Zaal Mu in het Educatorium).
Er is zoals altijd een beperkt aantal gratis plaatsen beschikbaar voor AIO's en studenten. Na afloop is er een borrel om nog even na te praten met de spreker en andere deelnemers.
Deelname

Deelname kost 100 euro voor niet-leden van Internet Society, en 50 euro voor leden. Internet Society organises a seminar about Topic Maps on April 5th at
the University of Utrecht. Topic Maps are a standard for the
representation and exchange of knowledge with a very flexible datamodel
that amongst others can be exported to XML. Topic Maps have been dubbed as
"the GPS of the information universe". Topic Maps are an official
ISO-standard developed in the late 90's and is for a part comparable
with the general known semantic W3C-standards like RDF and OWL which
have been developed for other purposes. At the moment there are
activities to find a possible integration. Topic Maps are an interesting
'enabling technology' for knowledge management applications, users in
the Netherlands are amongst others the Dutch Tax Office, Centric and Baan.
The keynote presentation of the seminar will be given by the Norwegian
Lars M. Garshol. Garshol is author of the XML book (Definitive XML
Application Development), one of the initiators of Topic Maps and
co-founder of world-wide market leader in this field Ontopia. The other
presentations are given by Henri Melger (Dutch Tax Office) and Remko
Helms (University Utrecht) who will talk about their experience with
Topic Maps. The seminar is organised at University Utrecht with the
support of the group Organisation & Information from the Institute of
Information and Computing Science
The fee for the seminar for non-members of ISOC.nl is EUR 100, members
of ISOC.nl pays 50 Euro (join!).
The seminar will be organised on April 5th 2006 from 13.45 hrs till
18.00 hrs at University Utrecht in room Mu in the Educatorium).
As always there is a restricted number of places available for AIO's and
students. Afterwards there is an informal drink, during which you can
talk with the speakers and other participants.
